On Resnais' "Night and Fog"

"As long as there is language, there is the tiniest spark of humanity; a work of the imagination, an address to another, a new meaning given to an old idea, a sign of an active intelligence, an act of compassion, a capacity to dream - all of these affirm the sacred inviolability of human life."
(Sandy Flitterman-Lewis, Terror and Memory in Alan Resnais's Night and Fog)

Quietly

In these moments
- these,
not-quite-Niles-and-Daphne moments,
these seveteen-year-old moments,
these adult moments,
that are over a decade old -
in these moments,
where you tell me,
(we've) earned it.
I feel like a child,
with a gold star on her homework.
But more.
I feel
gratitude.
And send silent thanks
into the atmosphere.

Blazer to Ripped-Sleeved T

Oh-kay. The Fellas in Blue won!
I admit, I didn't watch any other match of the season - but I had to follow this one. And after a slight plumetting of the heart when we was two wickets down at, what, 31? We WON.

And so much has changed. Apparently, we've gone from Blazer-and-white-sweater-wearing, composed, contained peoples (atleast going by the pictures)

To, well, this:

And this:

But, *shrug*. The Cup came back after 28 years.
Everyone deserves a little dousing in champagne, no?

And for a fantastic column on Why Cricket Matters, see Wright Thompson's column on ESPN.

After all, as @cgawker tweeted a few hours ago:
"for one day we all stopped trying to kill each other to support our team. i would die for you."
As would I, folks. As would I.

i
think of you
increasingly,
with less feeling
than when i was younger
i
miss you less
today,
than i did half
a decade ago
i
would do a lot
to know,
do you?

For a change, these days I have things to do - not important, earth-shattering things but things nonetheless. Yet, I love the little one and when she tags, I have to comply.

This one is the 5 subject meme.
The dear Reefknot has given me five subjects she associates with me and I'm supposed to regale you with the story behind each.

But before I launch into that, the only person I want to tag is Reef.
I can't imagine picking just 5. But here's a shot at it:
cat's tail
be-remember / maddu (you can choose one of the two if you want to)
Comics & Comics
clean, clean, clean
mumbai and bargains

She says: Older than her age, always (mentally)
Hmm. True, sadly. Right now for instance, I'm about forty years old in my head. That hasn't however, ever stopped me from being an insance flake at regular intervals

She says: Gummy Bears
Ha ha. This one is so much more fun than the last association (Sigh).
I can't remember my first introduction to gummies. But I'm guessing it was when our beloved Celebrity visited us.

The Black Forest® Gummy Bears 5lb bag has since been my sugar-high, security-blanket-substitute, trench-food-during-exams, anytime-snack. My favorite combination is transparent and green gummies. But no, don't buy me anymore, methinks I'm finally beginning to wean off the damn things.

Oh and yeah the only other two people that I know who love 'em: the very buddhist Divs and the lensman Cosmicgeometry

She says: AOC Centre
The Army Ordnance Corps Center in the hometown. Has existed since the early fifties I heard
The most delightful place to drive around: in mind mind associated mostly with long scooter rides with the Reefknot as pillion. Also with one particular instance where her singing made me drive off the road, straight into a thicket, in the hope of getting her to, ahem, stop.

Also for some reason in my mind, associated with a much younger me and australo (yes, probably because we verily love 'im)

She says: Madhavan and other "childhood" crushes
Gross! Euww! What!
(Well, there's no way in hell that I'm going to openly discuss my childhood lapses of taste and class. gross.)

She says: Blackmailer
To which I say, what?! me, blackmailer? Did I not protect your little white cheeks by threatening some poor kid at age 10? How in the world can you make such a vile accusation.
heh.

The Blue Hermit

The sibling and I were in conversation today where she compared me to her (the character, not the actor) and by some incredible co-incidence, she and I thought of the exact same person - chemical hermit, who went off our radar a long, long while ago.

I cannot even begin to describe to you what a hilarious shared memory that is - suffice to say it involves teenage drama, cuteness and cooties... well sort of the cooties.

Aight... so despite the evil things we say about the yogi there is one incredible memory that I have stashed away that involves him: the big 21st birthday midnight.

I had had the worst ever midnight ringing in of a birthday with the then boyfriend.
(Think long drive punctured with unpleasant silence)
I came home to an ultra-awesome family + cake and sing song
...the icing on the cake truly, was having Hermit call from someplace outside the des
and in his ahem, sexy baritone, say something
totally flattering

And that was the last time either of us heard from him.
I don't know if I will ever meet him again, but I must remember to hug him for helping salvage that midnight.
